They are not the same fish...… I have the L181's currently and had L213's before. Besides body shape being slightly different the L181's have more spines on the dorsal..... and tail shape is also different. L181's have a white (blueish tint) tips on the tail and L181 have a seem when smaller that goes away as they grow.

Hi Chuck, do you have any photos please?
A friend of mine has few adults and he would say they are both species. Will ask him for some photos.

As as well what stuby already said, they have a very different head shape. Look at the position of the eyes in particular. Ancistrus dolichopterus (L181) has eyes located very much on the side of head, vs more on the top in L213.

They look like L181 to me. They appear to have 9 spines in the dorsal fin instead of 8.... no white tip on the tail and the eyes appear to be more on the side than on the top. L181 will have a whiteish blue seam on the dorsal and tail fin when young. But that goes away as they get older.... L213's have a white tip on the tail and when in good shape will have a slight trailer coming off the tail.

Take care,
Chuck
