Hi,
definitely a Hypostomus, but without any information about the origin those are close to impossible to ID. There are close to 200 species and forms, quite often with very similar pattern. And by far not all have a L number.
There are many described species (that don't need a number) and also many without number and scientific name.
From the morphology it reminds me a bit of Hypostomus plecostomus. However, this species is very rare to non-existant in the trade and it's certainly something else.
With 10 cm it is also most likely by far not yet fully grown and the appearance can still change quite a bit.
Any idea from which region in South America it came ?
Cheers,

Thanks for the quick response.
No, that is all I know about this fish and that it is caught in nature, not grown in an aquarium.
