I have recently been given three large salmontai catfish (Arius graeffei) and I think they are great, but the guy at my lfs thinks that they are a waste of time?? What does everyone think?
I have never had these before and dont know what to expect!

Depends on how much of a catfish nut you really are. Salmontails are probably a dime a dozen in Australia, but they are rarely seen anywhere else.
The issue of size aside, they are not really that difficult to maintain. I say keep 'em.

g'day jamos i live in australia and yes they are everywhere and not at all hard to get . I had three not long ago in with a barramundi and aussie bass a while ago and they are great fish to have but watch out for the poisonous spike in thier dorsal fins(i think there is one in thier pectorial ones as well but im not sure) but they are great fish and can stick up for themselves as i had my 3 in with a barra nearly 3 times their size but they sorted him out.

p.s. they get to about 60cm and live in freshwater lagoons as well as brackish esturuaries and live in temps ranging from 11-36 celsius
