ID my black/dark orange spotted large catfish

Post by OlliePindakaas »

Dear,

Recently I bought a community tank from a guy, who changed plans. One of his (now my) fishes is a catfish. It seems that this fish has black spots on a dark orange base, but there is more black than orange. And all of the fins end in a fine line of white. This fish is lager than a hand, so around 20 cm/ 8 inches. I dont know if this fish is a male or a female.

For more info see the attached pictures. This fish and is fellows are still in a temproally 360 litre / 95 American gallon tank.

Personally, I think (s)he is a L023, 083 or a 196, but (s)he doenst listen to the name Glyptoperichtys Sp.

I was thinking the same. I got 2, which I´ll have for 15 year soon, being 50 cm including the tailfin

Nice fish, but they loose the orange

And a VERY beautiful specimen at that.
An opportunity to routinely impose a statement... I'll pass. ;)

Thanks for those very quick replies.

That all sounds great... :-\ And that I was right with one L-number, the 083 b-)

What is a good aquarium size for this Pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps? (S)he is now in a 360l/95g, and that is 120×50×60cm. And to swim with? Right now, (s)he swims with five Cardinal Tetras/Paracheirodon Axelrodi, one golden gourami / Trichogaster trichopterus gold, one cherrybelly cichlide/ Pelvicachromis Pulcher and a one of the 'Hong Kong Pleco'-family/ Gastromyzon Ctenocephalus.
Because I would like to have big groups of mirco fishes in a Indo-China commy-tope , like some dwarf puffers and microrasboras, this Pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps is gone be up for sale.
