Re: WTB CW111
CW111 is banned from export out of Brazil. The only specimens that are in hobbyists hand have been smuggled out of Brazil illegally. Don't touch those with a 10 foot pole. It encourages further poaching and smuggling.

Re: WTB CW111
Well that explains why I haven't seen them anywhere! Are they illegal to have even if they are the result of a breeding project? Or should I just give up on it?

Re: WTB CW111
Hi Alec,
In the USA, it's illegal to import species that are banned from export. Since CW111 was not a common trade fish prior to its ban (mainly because it was only discovered relatively recently, and the white list policy has been in place), essentially nobody should have this fish to my knowledge. So to answer your question, there is a risk that people importing these fish into the USA or buying these fish in the USA could get in trouble with USA law because someone else already exported it illegally. I don't know the laws well enough to say this is true or false, but I've read this discussed elsewhere.
Regards, Eric
P.S., I see you're a new member, so "welcome to PlanetCatfish!"

Re: WTB CW111
Only $700 each? That's a bargain among people who buy them. $1000 each is probably not uncommon.

Re: WTB CW111
C. araguaiaensis yes it's legal.
C. cruziensis is Bolivian not Brazilian, so the Brazil white list doesn't apply. But I do not know personally whether any cruziensis is being exported from Bolivia, or any fish for that matter. I never see people discussing Bolivian export policy.
