Hi Barry,
Apparently Aquarium Glaser got 25
(
see here); I'm sure they'll go fast. They look like a neat little fish. I didn't even know they existed. Glaser describes them in appearance as resembling a dwarf
. That would be neat to give a go.
If you get some and breed them, I'd like a chance to get fry from you.
Cheers, Eric

Hi
there is not much information about this species and it's requirements in captivity, but it's unlikely that it turns out to be a difficult fish. It uses to live sympatric with H. contradens and L. aff. galaxias. Even breeding seems relatively easy since the species has been bred in Singapore already this year. Currently it is actually thought to be a member of the genus Hypancistrus, but surely not that long anymore, and Micracanthiucs will be valid again.

Acanthicus-
Thanks for the information. Where did you read that it has been successfully bred in Singapore this year?

Shrimp Fever in Canada had many TR L280 not so long ago. They came in from Asia.
Another reputed importer in Canada will be getting WC L280 in a couple of weeks. Quite pricey at $150 each though.

The stock that Shrimp Fever (in Canada) was selling were TR and came from the Far East. This confirms that they are being bred in Asia albeit in smaller quantities.

Don't know what is "ideal," but they are collected in water at 32C.
Other water params in the area where fish are caught are:
Lujan & Armbruster, 2011 wrote:Most specimens of Micracanthicus vandragti have been collected ... [from] shallow rocky reefs in the main channel of the lower Ventuari River. Water parameters at one Ventuari River site yielding specimens of Micracanthicus vandragti were as follows: temperature, 32C; pH, 6.9; specific conductivity, 12.9 microS/cm; salinity, 0.0 ppt.; dissolved oxygen, 6.6 mg/l or 90.6% saturation

Considering the company they keep- I'd suggest 89 degrees F.

Someone I know in Japan (Katsu Ohkubo) has had a few successful spawns from his WC L280 group. His breeding adults are 4 cm.
Here's a pic of a spawn that Katsu shared with me.
