Rescued cory

Hi

Saturday I rescued 2 corys and 10 neons from a guy that lost interest in the hobby. He told me the corys are at least 5 years old.
One albino coy is in really bad shape, it has no pectoral fin! The dorsal fin was almost gone, and had some red spots on the caudal fin. I'm keeping it in a hospital tank. When i got home i thought it would die in a few hours, but it is still alive and eating like a healthy fish. The red spots are gone.
Will the pectoral fins grow back?

About the other cory (don't know the species) It seems healthy, but has a white/bluish spot on his eyes, so I'm thinking it might be catarat. I hope it is visible on the photos.

Should I treat them with something?
Any tips?
Thanks

Hi Peixes,

It sounds like you have a good start taking care of them. I see you are in Brazil, so I do not know what brands of aquarium medication you have access too. In the USA, I would advise very clean water, good aeration, and perhaps treat with Melafix.

As for your albino with the missing pectoral fin, if the fin spine is missing, then as far as I understand, no it will not grow back. If the soft rays are torn away, they can regrow if I recall correctly.

As for the ID of the other fish, from these photos and considering it's health condition, I'm not sure what that fish is.

Good luck with them,
Eric

Hi Eric,

The fin spine is missing. So, if it won't grow back, maybe it's been like this for a while. I have never seen melafix at a lfs, It's avaiable online, but it is a little expansive, and it would take more than 2 weeks to be delivered. So I will try to find something similar at a lfs.
I'm hopefull because it's eating a lot. And even without any pectoral fins it's able to swim and reach the water surface.

Thanks Eric

Hi Peixes,

If you give it good clean water and aeration, and if it's eating, it may recover on its own without needing any medication. But don't expect its fin to grow back.

I once bought a group of corys and one was missing its pectoral fin. The fish was active and healthy and was not inhibited by the lack of the fin.

Good luck,
Eric
