I was wondering if anyone ever put Corydoras or Brochis with a leaf litter? Will they utilize leaf litter, exploring and eating? or do they prefer an open sandy bottom?

I keep
in a 40 breeder with a pretty heavy amount of IAL. They seem to do well. I find they'll often be a few hanging out under a leaf if it provides shade, and I do think that the darker water increases activity versus a bright tank.
I have never seen them eat the leaf litter, but it does encourage the breeding of smaller organisms within the substrate which I imagine the Corydoras feed on.

I usually put at least a few oak or magnolia leaves in my cory tanks.

Yes, mine all like leaves. I especially use a few oak or beech leaves in the fry nursery as it gives them hiding places, microscopic food and the antibacterial benefits of tannins.
