I'm thinking the thresher is either a Laplatae or Hypostomus plecostomus

Can you count the rays in the dorsal fin? Second fish does look like a Pteryogoplichthys rather than a Hypostomus, ray count will determine which (former 12-13, latter 7-10 if memory serves). First fish does look like a good sized Red Thresher () - be good to see the caudal fin side on.

He wasn't able to get one with the dorsal up.
