Newbie Needing Advice and ID of Species

Post by Popeye »

Hi Folks -
Newbie to forum, not to fish keeping. I recently got two new cats from the LPS. They were in a plant tank and not labeled - the guy just called them "orphans." The LPS guy couldn't identify them and I have seen way to many that are so close yet have or don't have some of the features (see picture). I would appreciate an ID on this particular cory since they are my only mystery occupants.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Popeye

Hi Popeye,

Your new fish is a young .

Looking at your tank, I'd recommend some changes to give this fish best care (alternatively, you have an excuse to set up a new tank for these corys if you don't want to change this tank):

Sand instead of gravel substrate. And if you really want this species to be happy, raise the temp up. Although they'll do okay at 78F, they are a warmer water species and do well at 82-85F.

A beautiful species.

Cheers, Eric
