Lucky day at the LFS, amblydora and platydora?

A recent visit to a small lfs proved to be very fruitfull. Usualy all they sell are some bettas, guppies and goldfish. But luckily, at least for me, someone sent them a diferent fish from what they had ordered. And since they didn't know what they had the prices were very low.

And I just had to buy them all :d

But now i’m not sure what I just bought.
I think one is an amblydora the other one is a platydora.
Is this right? If so, which amblydora and platydora.
Also got a hemiloricaria and a juvenile amblydora (try to upload some photos later)

Thanks for the help
Love the site

I thought Amblydoras hancocky is now Platydoras hancocky - if that is really the case, you have 2 Platydoras

With regard to the s on the end of the name, I think in Portugese, just as in Spanish, the S means plural - so it is hard to say 1 Platydoras. But Platydoras is a Latin name, where the S, at least here, does not mean plural

So you think the darker is a Platydoras hancockii?

And the marbled one? I guess it may be Amblydoras affinis or Amblydoras nauticus.
Amblydoras affinis is found in Brazil, so i think its more likely to be it.

With regard to the s, and the plural in Portuguese, you are quite right. It is hard to say 1 Platydoras. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Dave, the problem with Amblydoras nauticus is the distribution.
I am quite sure the fish is from Brazil, and if Amblydoras nauticus is only found in Peru, than thats not the case.

My thought is Peru is type locality. I've asked elsewhere and let you know. :)

It has been suggested to me that these are A. nauticus and A. monitor. Although A. nauticus " is so far found only found in Peru and Colombia, all three countries (Peru, Colombia, Brazil ) meet at a point where many fishes are caught. "

There is almost no pictures of Amblydoras monitor! The one in scotcat.com seens a little different than my, specialy the color. But it is difficult to trust in only one picture, of one specimen and with bad lighting.

But the fish description is very accurate. And both Amblydoras are found in the same region!

Thanks
