I bought this guy for $30 as a false tiger pleco.
It looks like something in peckoltia. But honestly I have no clue.
Any help with ID would be appreciated.

Looks like
, but perhaps with more abundant stripes. The head looks good for compta, but I gotta admit the posterior stripes look a little wonky. Hopefully it's just individual variation and nothing worse (hybrid *cough-cough)
Actually, take a look at this image (#17 on the compta CLOG page). The fishes in that photo have high density stripes, so you're probably fine.
Very nice.
P. compta are going for some dimes ($100 for a 2" fish at WetSpot) lately in the USA. $30 is an excellent price.

That looks about right. I think my lfs gets the fish from an importer because the have tons of loricariids oftentimes unlabeled.
Your id seems solid hopefully it isn't a hybrid.
What does "going for dimes mean"?
Thanks for the fast help

I've never seen a hybrid with
Peckoltia compta. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that I haven't seen it, so I think you're safe.

I've heard that used to mean very expensive. If you look back up at my first post, I edited it while you were responding below. I referenced current prices at WetSpot right now for perspective.
I think you scored.

Ok yeah. I told them it was probably something in peckoltia. 30 seemed pretty cheap. I threw in some live black worm and shut off the lights. His belly is a bit sunken hopefully he will take food. I lost a baby royal the other day so any advice to help him settle is appreciated

Sorry I've never kept royals so I can't offer much. Hopefully someone else does.
