I don't know if I'm seeing an optical illusion in your photos, but your fish appear to have a black edge to the dorsal and caudal fins. If that's real, then I'd suggest you have a color variant of

Compare your fish to this photo:

Hopefully someone else confirms or rejects that. :-)

Yes, it has black edge! But it is over 7 inch. Is it the biggest type of hypancistrus? or it is a kind of hybrid? :)

When you say it's over 7 inches, are you including the tail in that measurement? If so, then absolutely yes inspectors get this long.

@ridout has kept inspectors... ridout, how large are yours?

I think these fish have too much spots to be Hypan inspector and body shape is different ! Of course i dont have inspector so just guessing.

Yes, I agree with you, but I don't know any other plecos with the black seam along the fins. And there are some odd-looking (spotting pattern) inspectors. The head does look a little off, but I can't put my finger on why so I don't have an alternative choice for ID.

H. Inspector seems pretty accurate to me as well. Small spots on face, bigger on body. Black seam. Typical Hypancistrus mouth and the head would look like one to me as well. Pretty nice fish anyways.

If you watch pictures of inspector in this site they are much different. These fish are full of spots but not and inspector. It seems more like scobiancistrus to me.

I do agree that the head looks too wrong to be H. inspector. Among other things, the eyes seem too small to be inspector. Scobis do seem like a distinct possibility.

A little thing, just curious, why drop the n in Scobi and not in Hypan? Scobinancistrus and Hypancistrus would either be Scobi and Hypa or Scobin and Hypan.

@Jools

Not to pick nits, bit if one applies your logic, you should get this:

Hypancistrus = Hyp
Scobinancistrus = Scobin

If you want to argue in favor of Hypan, then the other would have to be Scobinan 8-}

Either way, it is a nice looking pleco.
