Sexing l128's

Post by unklebilly »

Largest is about 18cm both appear female to me but I've read accounts that ondontodes even at this size didn't appear until after a year of conditioning. Is there a good chance one could be male?

I think there is as much chance of one of them being a male as there is of one of mine being a female....

krazyGeoff, I would say the two larger fish are males and look to be in good condition, there is a chance the smaller could be female (based on body shape), but is likely too small to be sure.

unklebily, its hard to see from the pictures you have shared, do you have a picture similar to krazyGeoff's?

Thanks Marc,
That is what I thought too. A year later the little one has a nice set of odontodes on the cheek, and also on the pectoral fins......
Cheers

I still think that unklebilly has a male. Second picture left one I guess will turn out as male. Your fish had strong odonthodes because they were in great condition. His male will get them back, as well. I am pretty confident and think chances are actually higher he has two males than two females. But we will only know if unklebilly comes back in a year and tells us :)

I agree Jobro, unklebily, set a reminder in a year to come back and let us know how they turn out! :d
