WTB/looking for sources of cool loricariinae USA

Hi all;

I'm starting up some tanks again, and I'm looking for some sources of cool whiptails.

While the EU has recently been getting great stuff like loricarichthys and apistoloricaria, I haven't seen anything cool here for a long while, except maybe (recently) "tru"E P. apithanos (don't have the tank size) and knobnoses (too problematic to raise fry). Anyone have any leads? I'm esp interested in sturisomatichthys and smaller pseudohemiodon spp.

a lot of my old online sources seem to have gone awol. :(. Wish I was closer to Pier Aquatics. :(((((

With Ted Judy closing down his stock shop, tracking these down will be getting even more difficult sadly. Next best bet may be wetspottropicalfish.com. The best way may be to order from hobbyists who have/are breeding them.

On a side note, what is the issue with raising knobnose fry? I have not had any issues when feeding microworms to them as long as enough food is presented. The fry can even be raised in the same tank as the adults given it is a species only tank.

What part of the US are you located? Try batfishaquatics.com?

+1 Josh (Batfish) can get you just about anything and is a huge supporter of our local clubs in MD.

Jeff Rapps gets in interesting loricariinae on occasion.

I too am sad that Ted is shutting down. I got some really nice H. lanceolata, S. panamense, and S. nigrirostrum from him. I got lots of spawns from the S. panamense and have yet to spawn the S. nigrirostrum.

Yeah I was able to get a group of the Apistoloricaria and Pseudohemiodon sp Peru 2 from him and have had success spawns of both, but need to build up more stock before moving some on. Sorry slightly off topic from OP my apologies.

I would second reaching out to Josh also. Very nice person to deal with

I recommend checking with Jamie and Christine at Freshwater Exotics. If they don't have it, there's a chance they can get it.

thanks so much for your help. Wow, can't believe Judy is shutting down. :(. Yeah I've gotten lots of stuff from Jeff, too. Looking to restock on some claros from him soon.

Knobnose fry always just die on me I have no idea why.

It's good to know there are whiptail people this side of the atlantic. let me know when those apistos are up for bid! If you have any other guys sitting around, I'd be super down.
