pretty new to this forum, but thought, why not ask a question.

I have been keeping some C. Panda in my community tank and they have been breeding nicely over the past few years. Since i changed my setup to 1 community tank and 4 smaller breeding tanks, the Panda's have moved to one of those smaller tanks. They are doing just fine, just as the C. Pygmaeus i am keeping in one of the other tanks.

Since 1 week i have a group of 10, wild caught, C. Loretoensis in my community tank. I love these fish as i find them pretty cool! Love their cute eyes and their pattern. I have been scanning the internet for info and have found some, but it is not very often that you see or read about these fish. What i haven't found is any "breeding report".

Does anybody have experience with these lovely Cory's? Any experience at all or breeding experience in particular?

C. loretoensis is definitely a very nice cory. The dorsal on some of my males is quite tall and even curves slightly. My group has spawned a couple of times. I lowered the water level to half a tank over a period of time and then added cool water back up to the normal water level. Nothing drastic, just a couple of degrees cooler worked for me. The tank temperature is normally about 78 degrees F. What worked for my group may or may not work for your group but with good food, regular water changes, and trying different things, spawning these guys is certainly possible.

that sounds like a sort of "standard way" to get them to spawn. Great job. How did growing the little fellows work? I read 1 other, german, breeding report and that started out fine with 30 eggs and 30 very small Loretoensis. In the end, only 1 survived without any obvious reason. Did the different spawns survive? What way did you grow them? What did you feed them?
How long have you had them or do you still own them?

The larval fish seemed to be average sized. I used a Marina box to house them for the first couple of weeks. Then they went into a 20 gallon high tank. After their yoke sac was used up, I started them on decapped brine shrimp eggs and microworms. Next I fed them baby brine shrimp and decapped brine shrimp eggs mixed with a fine dry high protein meal type food. The first batch of eggs was small since I almost missed seeing them and some may have been eaten. The adult group did not let me know that they were about to spawn and so I really was not looking for eggs. There was none of the usual pre-spawn activity that I could see. The eggs I found were in a spawning mop. I had a good hatch, just not that many eggs. The second batch was about 20 eggs and the eggs were spread out all over. They were on the glass, rocks, plants, mop, and moss. There were even a couple of eggs on the roots of a floating water sprite. Again the hatch rate was good. I have about a dozen of the youngsters left and the seven in the adult group. I like them so much that I even bought back my fish from my BAP submission to the local fish club. Unfortunately one of those fish subsequently died but other that that, they have been pretty durable. I bought them as young adults and still have them.
