Hi GreenPleco. Welcome. Hey, I see that your Location is California. If you are in the Central or Northern part of California, I'd like to invite you to attend the Sacramento Aquarium Society's monthly meeting tomorrow night in Folsom, CA at 7pm. Nathan Lujan will be speaking about loricariids (mostly plecos, I imagine) from Brazil. It should be interesting. There's a post about it on this website, or you can private message me for more info.
Cheers, Eric

Hi GreenPleco,
I don't know how up-to-date this list is, but I just typed "aquarium society" and Los Angeles into Google and I found this website which lists various clubs.
Local Aquarium Club Directory
I suppose you can try contacting them and see if any are active and if so, when/where they meet.
Cheers, Eric
P.S., if you had asked me back in the late 1960's or early 1970's, I would have sent out to Riverside CA, where I used to live and where I attended the "Tri-City Aquarium Society." But I don't think that club exists anymore.

LOL
It would have to be any time after 1975. I could have gone as a new born baby.

It might have been an option; I temporarily (~35 years) quit keeping aquaria starting in 1978. I don't think I was still attending the aquarium society at that time, but I might have been... I'm pretty sure I was still going to those meetings in 1976. The last year I can find a Google reference to the Tri-City Aquarium Society is 1977.
Here's a clipping from the Desert Sun newspaper of Palm Springs, CA, March 7,1968, about a "new breed of angelfish" created by one of our former members, a guy from San Bernardino: It was called a "marbled angelfish." Maybe you've heard of it? LOL
Cheers, Eric
