Hi, I am new to this forum and would like to ask for help identifying my fish bought at local pet store as C. Punctatus.
I have been searching the web and to me they look more like C. Agassizii or C. Ambiacus.

They have grayish heads with some spotting and a golden like diagonal stripe between the eye and the dorsal fin.

Welcome to PlanetCatfish. Looking at the extent of the black color on the dorsal fin of your fish, I'd agree that you have .

Now I am glad I know which Corys I have in my tank.

This is first time I have Corys so I will surely use this forum to learn stuff about them and maybe one day I will be successful in hatching and raising fry

What the key difference in head shape between C. delphax and C. agassizii?
Are the black dots on the flanks any indicator between the two?

I don't own Ian Fuller's Cory ID books, nor have a membership to his website to find out yet.

By the way, are the pictures verified in PlanetCatfish's "Cat-e-log" that the fish in the pics are indeed the correct species? Or are they not verified/confirmed and the pics may be of another species that looks very similar? Just wanted to get an idea of how accurate the photos are.

I'm not sure about head shape differences, but as I understand it, spot size is a major factor to consider, with agassizii having few and larger spots. And although I've never read it anywhere, photos of delphax appear, to me anyway, to have a brighter iridescent streak above and behind the eyes. That may not be universally reliable though.

Excellent question. The answer is that there "might be" (not "are") photographic errors between the species, or at least between agassizii and ambiacus, which is also similar. I believe there are plans to sort that out.
