I'm expecting 3 Rhinodoras dorbignyi.

Today, I made some shelter....
Would this be good? They are around 13cm now.

They would prefer open ended pipes.

Ok.... so actually putting a bottom beneath those would be better or does it have to be round?

I think @Jools means to say, use open tubes, not caves closed at one end. But maybe I'm misinterpreting.

Yes, I mean open tubes (or square tubes) the key thing being they can swim in and out from both sides. Typically they just like sitting in share under wood but pipes will do. I used terracotta pipes about 3" diameter and 3 or 4 times the length of the fish.

I will follow this experienced advice then and get some bigger pipes.... and share some pics of these Rhinodoras before i put them in the tank ;)

I look forward to hearing updates about this species, the entire family truly fascinated me and I have had the chance to get however I feel there is to little know about these animals and I would prefer they end up in scientifically qualified hands.

They are also a little pricey

I just saw there is at least one in a tube, another one is a bit higher beneath some wood, the 3rd one is a question.
Yesterday i just took a picture of one before they where hidden, because te next time i see them during daylight can be rare.

It doesn't make a difference care or feeding, but FWIW, I think this is probably .

This can surely be, looking at the drawings or is there another reason why you think this?

Then they also could be at their maximum length 135mm, maybe a bit more now.
The region they are caught is near Argentina i think.
At least they came from an Argentina import.
Asking the supplier if he has more info about where they have been found.

Seems like the colors can change alot?
I remember amiidae also telling me this some time ago.

With this information i'm asking myself if you can define the species by looking at the colors... ?

The tubes are fine.
All 3 rhinodoras are hiding in them.
Sometimes they move from tube to tube.
Wonderfull to see them coming out with their heads to eat.

Then it probably is R. dorbignyi, this is not a common export. The vast majority of exported are from Peru.
