Hi All,
I want to position my clay pleco cave on a diagonal in-ground. Any reason I should avoid doing this?

Do you mean something like this? Slanted with the back end buried slightly in the substrate, with the mouth of the cave elevated compared to the back?

That's it exactly. I figured the only maintenance needed is vacuuming once a week to make contaminates don't fill in.

I'm not sure how others feel, but I tend to do this with my caves. Although I don't elevate the front too much, I place a small flat stone under the entrance to slightly elevate it. This way, if a male is keeping eggs, he is less likely to push them out. But if you do this, you do have to be careful to elevate the entrance enough that sand/gravel and poop don't fill the cave (or you have to turn it over occasionally and dump out anything filling the bottom).
In the photo below, you can see the mouth of one cave elevated by a stone, and to the right you can see the rear side of another cave buried slightly below the grave.

Right now I have his cave laying flat on the gravel. I am about to revamp the aquarium and thought it would be a good opportunity to bury his cave a bit.

Good idea I have some really fussy plecos that dont like going too far for food at the moment in case someone else takes over the cave i wedge food in the caves but as i have a deep tank and have to pick caves up to do it at least now I can just stick it slightly under the caves do have to rinse out caves also.
