Gold nugget breeding

I brought this question up on the last board, however, I didn't really get any new info, so I'll ask it here. Has anyone here bred any of the gold nuggets or knows where I might find some good information about it? All I know is that Vires was able to, accidently. So, there you go. Any info? Thanks.

A guy at an LFS near me got eggs from them, not exactly sure how he did it though. The next time I see him, I'll ask.

As far as I am aware they do not have any reliable external caracteristics, but as with most plecs the female is slightly plumper when see has eggs?
I personally don't know anyone who has bred Gold Nuggets.
I see what I can get out of the internet for you.
I'll post a reply soon.

From Vires' book:
Larry Vires wrote:Dimorphism is difficult to notice unless the breeders are at full breeding size. Probably the easiest way to sex these fish is by the shape of their foreheads. Males have flatter, more leveled slope to their foreheads and are slightly wider. Females have a more rounded forehead and are slightly plumper when in spawning condition. There is no notable difference in odontode growth in any of the species [L81, L18, L177].
Vires' also goes on to say that a powerhead aimed at the spawning site will trigger the spawning.
Too bad Larry dropped off of the face of the Earth
Really knowledgable guy.

Any idea what breeding size is? As far as i know, on smaller fish, this is 6/10's of the length of a fully grown fish. So breeding size is what? 10-15 cm?

Vires says 4" (10 cm) for L81 and L177, and 6" (15 cm) for L18.

Hi I have 3 L177 and I think I can see that beforementioned "flatter head" on 2 of them and a bit more odontodes growth on these (but it might be me dreaming
). On

Hi Polkadot
They were 10-11 cm when I bought them a year ago so they have put on aprox. 2 cm each and are in far better shape now. So they are doing fine i guess. Maybe I should put on an extra powerhead to see if I could get them a little more interested in each other
. Hope you can some length one yours.
