Oh and the mottled coloring is not the lighting...that's his actual coloring.

The mottled colour is because the fish is stressed / trying to adapt to a white substrate, it would go inky black when settled / on a darker substrate. This looks closer to
to me but care of either is very similar.

Thank you for the substrate info. I have a 55 gal with black substrate that I will move him to.
