Petricolas do not 'hold' the eggs, they are egg scatter's. Most people use a clay pot over a glass dish with smooth marbles or gravel in the dish to catch the eggs. The fish will spawn in the cave and the eggs will be deposited in the marbles away from the adults which will try to eat them. You can remove the dish into a hatching tank and give it a go.

When you say 'holding eggs' do you actually mean the females are not plump & gravid?

If you want to condition the synos I would feed finely chopped earthworm & finely shredded prawn/mussel/claw/etc

If you can it is better to condition the sexes separately over a month & then bring them together for the spawning attempt

Hi thanks for your replys
Apologies for my terminology I ment plump I will not to be able to separate them unfortunately my current setup is a glass bowl with an egg crate and marbles with a tericota pot on top the male is constantly in and out but the females don't seem to want to play ball

if the male is keen to breed his harassment of the females may stop them becoming ready (hence the separation while conditioning up

I never had any reason to separate these, so I'm not sure that would even help. They just always seemed a bit nippy right up till spawning.

You can check my spawning thread...http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... hp?t=32721

hi larry wow what a great thread i found it very useful i have managed to get another tank but i am not going to separate them i intend to raise the fry in there my question really is how many cherry shrimp did you end up using to help clean and would you recommend anything else from keeping the fungus at bay ?
