Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
Hi,
I have some doubt regarding the identity of a catfish from a friend of mine.
Can somebody please ID it.
It's the 'little one' at 00:58 and he/she is plus 30 cm

Most likely snout to tail
the fish is from a friend of mine, that's why I'm not 100% sure about the measurement

Re: Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
I got mine in 1988, sop I have them for 26 years now, and I would estimate them being at least 1 year at that time, measuring some 10 cm
Therefore I'm rather confidend your friend can enjoy them for at least another 10 year
I do hope, however, mine will reach 30 or more

Re: Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
I'm currently in the process of adding this calm beauty to my tank (even though it's a West Africa themed tank).
Unfortunately the fish has to leave it's current tank and I do believe she(?) can have a great old day in my 163x124x080 tank (Netto 1500L)

Re: Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
Would this combined with the following bottomdwelling cats?
2 Chrysichthys cf nigrodigitatus
1 Chrysichthys ornatus
2 Paraucheiniganis cf punctatus

Re: Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
I think the Platydoras I have my eyes on is bigger than the one in the video you mentioned ;)
Looking at the individual species, I can only say beautiful
But at the whole package, I can only cry..
What a horrible mix of species in an overcrowded tank with hardly any decoration in it

To make things a little 'crazier',
would this large P armatulus combine with a large group of Corydoras and medium sized tetras?

Re: Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
I don't see significant problems with this combo. Aren't tetras Africans?
You'd be well advised then to not look inside any of my tanks ;) Not that I don't appreciate a beautiful, balanced biotope.Tanganyikafreak wrote:But at the whole package, I can only cry..

Re: Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
With tetras I'm referring to a hypothetical biotope switch Viktor ;)
I would think about Bleedinghart tetra, or Nematobrycon or Hemigrammus bleheri, stuff like that.
Perhaps my reply was a bit 'oversized' on the tank in that video.
I'm just very focused on trying to keep fish as natural as possible

Re: Who is this tankbuster? Platydoras?
Nothing wrong with that IMHO, esp. your side of it. Narrower but deeper hobby versus broader but shallower. Many will disagree. Some would not.

Oh well, in all honesty, if(!) I'd switch, my Chrysichthys cf nigrodigitatus wouldn't leave.
I'm so in love with that pair
So, I guess I could play the 'hypocrite card' now

Martijn, I've never seen a Playdoras that fat
