Yellow ("Gold") Nigrita?

Post by tep »

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed postings for Synodontis Nigrita "Gold" on the aquabid/ebay sites. I just came upon this "bright yellow syno" video on youtube:

Also looks to be nigrita? Do we think these are simply recessive, albino phenotypes or are they manipulated in some way? Just curious @-)

The eyes, the intense yellow color, plus there appears to be a melanized spot at the base of the tail, and possibly (although maybe an optical illusion of the video) faint melanized lines on dorsal fin - doesn't appear to be a true albino.

It is not albino, it is amelanistic or can also be called xanthic, explanations can be found in the glossary in the help section.
While you are there also look up leucistic and albino.

This is not uncommon in species that have high number of young in one go and it can be line bred....do not pay big dollars for such a fish.I have now seen quite a feqw species of syno where this has popped up.
