Panda cories spawned... on rocks!

Well this was quite a surprise. This morning I woke to find 2 of my 4 trilineatus dead in my betta tank... no idea why. Just as I had finished scooping up the poor things (RIP) from the tank and got ready to go into my depressed mode, I noticed activity in my panda cory tank that appeared to be similar to spawning (2 smaller fish chasing a larger one around) and a few minutes of observation confirmed that they were spawning. Only problem is, the female, being the lazy juvenile parent she is, just stuck the eggs on the algae covered rocks (smooth surface) I placed for the otocinclus... where all the other pandas have easy access to... Thanks, mom!

Other fish are Otocinclus, pygmy cories (pygmaeus and habrosus)...

I know the pygmies don't pose a threat but I am pretty sure the pandas ate the eggs all up (had to head out for work; again. thanks, mom!)...

Question now is: when will they spawn again, I wonder...

I have certopteris cornuta floating on the surface and I had hoped they would use the roots and floating leaves to deposit eggs but they just used the rocks sitting smack in the middle of the aquarium floor. Oh well... wish they didn't eat their young though

When my Corydoras panda spawned they placed the majority of their eggs in order of their preference, Hair Algae, my Killifish acrylic yarn spawning mops, Hornwort(Ceratophyllum) and finally smooth surfaces, usually glass. The last was way down their preferred list places.

How many eggs they laid?
I have 11 panda with 5 schwartzi and 9 agassizii.
I had 3 panda spawns, The first with 2 eggs. The 2nd with 10 eggs, and the last with 8 eggs.
I think the schwartzi and agassizii eat them, because I saw an agassizii eating one of them wile I collect from the anubias roots. One drops to the bare bottom and was instantly eaten. I am planing to divide the different species to leave the panda alone. I will replace the anubias with spawning mops because is very difficult to see each egg to save. Do you move the entire spawning mop to an eggs tank and replace with a new mop?

Pablo , 10-15 eggs usually also, depends on some factors like age of fish , food they get , how many fish in the tank , my C.Panda group, ( witch i keep alone as all the cory i try to bread) , are terrible egg eaters , the fish that don't participate in the spawning , are busy munching on them . when i use a spawning mop i remove it in a separate container or if the eggs are not fresh and sticky i pick them one by one .

I see you have the same probleme like me.....
Fish who don't participoate at the spawn eat eggs.

I have four males and four femels and i have only ten or 20egg at each spawn.....
But 40 eggshell without nothing inside.
They are eaten.

Is there a method to avoid that fish don't eat the eggs ?

Yannick i don't try to raise large numbers, and C.Panda have eggs with >98% hatching rate so i'm happy with what i get left from them.

- i've used 2-3 spawing mops but still found egss eaten in the mops , i've seen that keeping the fish very well feeded (especialy with live tubi) will reduce the eggs predation ! i have 2M and 5F . so the female are the ones munching on the eggs .
- if you want larger numbers of eggs , try 2-3M and 1F .

good idéa : 2 males for 1 female, therefore all fish is spawning and don't eat egg.....
I will try in specific tank.

I have separated male (sterbai and paleatus in the same tank) and all female in another......
In ten or 15 days, il will take 1 female and 2 male in a new 10 gallons tank.

I want to see :
- If I have more eggs than before when they wasn't separated (male and female in the same time all the time)
