Paroon Shark

So... On an impulse I bought two Paroon Sharks (Pangasius sanitwongsei). I didn't know what they were, I knew they were in the Pangasius family but that was it. Right now they're finger sized and in a 25gallon long tank by them selves. Any tips on keeping these beautiful fish would be appreciated. I'm most likely going to keep them for a short while until I get my 60 gallon cube up and running, then I'll probably trade the sharks in for the fish I want for the cube.

Unfortunately, I do not think these fish, no matter how small they currently are, will be happy in a 25 gallon aquarium. They need lots of swimming space even when young. Paroon sharks grow huge in a short period of time and will quickly outgrow the tank. Even the 'short-bodied' variety grows to 50cm.

In my opinion these are not suitable for the home aquarium. They can bolt when startled & cover long distances. 'Tanks' should be several meters long AND wide

Yup, that's exactly what every website says and I'm not disagreeing with them but I have the fish now so... Yeah. I'm not even sure how my LFS got them in the first place!

When young, paroons appear not too different from IDS in care, diet, etc. Hardy, non-fussy. Yes, nervous. Could be more predatory and appreciate a bit fleshier diet. When larger, they are NOTHING like an IDS in that they are most usually swimming killers, not unlike marine sharks. Exceptions have been reported but appear rare IME of reading.

I've never kept them personally but my friend has them and in the 8 months they grew from 2-18". I would just return them to the shop bc you won't be having them for long
