Sexing L201

Post by mattlamm »

Hi guys. I'd like some pointers in sexing L201s please. I've searched online and looked through this forum but haven't found any decent images that clearly illustrate the difference between males and females.

Does anyone have any decent images of both sexes to help me get an idea? Also, From what size can they be reliably sexed from?

Do the females have any odontodes near the gills? If so how much longer will the males be?

Thanks

Anyone able to give an opinion on this L201 of mine. It's about 6cm total length. Male or female? Too small to tell yet? Sorry if the pic is not clear enough, I took several but this was the best my phone could get.

Thanks!

Hi guys. Is there no one able to help here? Is the photo not good enough quality to tell?

Thanks

Photo is good quality but the people on here need a picture more directly above the fish and a little bit closer to make it easier for them. It could be to small to tell...
I can stop keeping catfish whenever I want. I just don't think I'll ever want to do that...

Could be male because of its shape. But it might still be young and need more nourishment as well to show its true shape. Nevertheless, photo needs to be closer.

Thanks for the opinions guys. This was the closest pic I could get, anything closer and my phone wouldn't focus. The fish is in QT at the moment so when I move it in a few weeks I'll use a different camera to get a closer pic. I did also feel it was a male though.
