What Corys do I have? I need to move them on.

Hello,

I have 8 of these Corydoras, I purchased them from a MA store local to me and have had them for around 2 years. I have had to close a tank down so these fellas have been in a tank along with 3 pea puffers for a couple of weeks.

I have noticed that the puffers have had a few nips at 1 or 2 of the Corys fins, (very little damage) I have had to decide whether I keep the Corys or the puffers. TBH the Corys have always been very shy so I don't see them that much anyway so I have decided to keep the puffers as I find them more interesting.

I don't want much for them at all, I paid £20 each for them but am not looking for anywhere near that amount and would gladly let them go to a good home for very cheap. The sooner they are gone the better because I don't want the very little damage a few of the Corys have to their fins get much worse, the fins will heal in no time in the correct conditions.

I am located in Bristol, but am willing to travel a short distance to meet any potential buyer. Not willing to post sorry as I find posting fish cruel (just my opinion) here a few photos of the little fellas. They have been kept on sand for the last year and are in great condition, they are fed on new life spectrum food and JBL nova tabs.

Message to MODS, I am sorry that I am essentially advertising here with my first post, this is more of an emergency thing as I don't want the Corys to get in a bad state. I will even donate 10% of the sale price to this site.

All sorted now, I flushed the corys down the loo, couldn't watch them suffer any more.

If your pea offers are attacking your other fish, this is a sign IMO your tank is A)overcrowded or B) they are hungry. I would suggest supplementing their diet with bloodworms and another suggestion to trade in excess fish to your local fish store rather than flushing relatively healthy fish. I keep 6 peapuffers in a 60G with an enormous herd of sterbais without issue by doing this. Another suggestion would be to pick up some plastic crafting mesh to use as a cheap effective divider till the fish could be rehomed.

Yes, because flushing them down the loo meant they suffered much less...not! :-Q :ang:

You wouldn't post as you think it's cruel yet you flushed them!?! Flushing is a horrible thing to do to fish they'll have suffered a painful lingering death, shame on you

lol I didn't flush them!! I didn't get any response at first so posted that just to get you all posting responses (sorry about that) I would never flush healthy a fish away.

The puffers were well fed, experienced fish keepers will be aware that puffers all have different personalities, some will nip some won't. The fact that they were fed well daily didn't make any difference, the tank was not over stocked 120litre tank with 8 cory's, lots of cherry shrimp (which the puffers left alone!) and 3 pygmy puffers. I think the bright colour of the cory's attracted the puffers to them TBH.

The puffers have now been re homed so just the Cory's and shrimp in the tank now. I will get some peaceful fish to go in the tank shortly.

Will be doing 2 50% water changes per week to help the fins recover, was debating using a little melafix to help the healing along the way? what do you guys think?

I found the same that the pea puffers are attracted to nipping cory fins. I had to put my pea puffer in a floating net temporarily for about a week in the community tank when the filter to his tank broke down. When he would escape the only fish he nipped at were the corys (primarily the orange laser ones but not exclusively).

Here are a few photos of the now happy cory's as they have no one to bother them anymore.

This picture shows the corey with the most amount of damage, I would think it should heal well in time.
