Today I was in a fish store and saw some assorted cories. I reconized them at c. rabauti. They are healthy looking adults. I live in Chicago. The local water is from Lake Michigan. The pH is 7.8 and 180 ppm mineral content. I am curious if any people the midwest have had experience successfully spawning this species.

Viking Bear,
I would like to see a picture of your fish if possible, C. rabauti is very similar to C. zygatus and the two species are often imported together. Their breeding habits are also a little different.

I don't have a camera to post a picture. I have your book and judging by the pictures. I am sure that they are C. rabauti. They are a little over 2 inches long. They are a darker tan color. I saw another group in another store the same color labeled C. rabauti. I thought that C. zygatus was less common to find.

Viking,
To answer your question...I've found Rabauti difficult to spawn. I've been trying for 2 years to get some of those awesome, tri-colored fry. Time to pull out Ian's book...lol.

The trouble with these two species is that they are invariably imprted together and almost always called C. rabauti.
