Hypancistrus sp."Uatumá"
I would just like to share some pictures of a fish labeled Hypancistrus sp."Uatumá". This name was apparently chosen by some exporter in Manaus, Brazil. I don't know the name of the exporter, and I don't know if this fish actually comes from Rio Uatumá. Obviously this type isn't identical to any Hypancistrus currently allowed for export from Brazil, yet somehow these found their way to Europe. In the end, 7 of them were given to me by a friend to let me investigate their true identity.
They look quite similar to the form known from Nhamundá (see here: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 26&t=39643), and the two may well be closely related or even the same species.
The variation in pattern is huge. I would love to see evidence of this type actually occuring in the Uatumá (apparently Rio Jatapu) system.

Great pictures. Lot of variation, as with the Nhamundá ones. A difficult job to pick a specimen as the definitive L number!

Hi,
that would be the species Leandro talked about at length in one of his presentations during the last L-Numbers-Days, I believe (and if they are, they indeed are from the lower reaches of Rio Uatumá).
With massively variable patterns, but hardly any genetic differences..
Cheers,
Sandor
