Set up for L411

Hi all. Today I have purchased a Hypancistrus L411, which in a few weeks I will be setting a tank up specifically around the requirements of this fish. I was just looking for some clues around tank furniture for these guys. Other stocking will be some Corydoras and Otocinclus. I was thinking a river bed typed set up, with rocks, pebbles and wood, as many hiding places as I could make and some leaf litter on the base. Cheers, Ben.

Hi Ben.

I would ditch the leaf litter. While great for the Otocinclus and Corydoras, it is not something that's found in the habitat of Hypancistrus, and as it decomposes, it may reduce the oxygen content of the water (which is fine for the otos and cories, but the L411 might be sensitive).

Bear in mind that most cories enjoy temperatures much colder than the L411 prefers.

Thanks for the response. I inted to keep C.Sterbai and one other species that will tolerate the temp. Undecided as to what yet. Ill scrap the leaf litter then. Cheers.

Agree with the above. 411s will like temps in the 80° plus range. I would also have at least 1 cave for each 411 that you have. Good luck.
