Bristlenose feeding question

Post by phlegethon »

Hello, first post.

I have a bushynosed pleco, only had him 3 days now. So far he rarely ventures out from under his driftwood. I've never seen him eat. I even dropped a Hikari algae wafer right in front of him and he won't eat it.

Is this normal behavior? Does it just take a little while for him to get used to the new surroundings?

I usually feed them an hour or so before lights-out, but reading the forum here I gather I should feed the catfish (I also have 6 albino bronze corycats...) a while AFTER lights-out, correct?

Thanks for any advice.

You can also try adding a slice of cucumber to the tank as well. Weight it down with plant lead or by using a rubber band to attach it to a stone or other heavy object / ornament. Remove it after 2 days if it is not touched.

As you suspect, the fish will take time to adjust and given you acquired it in good condition, not eating for a week or so should present it with no problems at all.

The trick is not to fret and disturb the fish to "see how it is doing" or over feed.

All Corydoras and Ancistrus (bushynoses) will feed day and night, so you can feed them anytime.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just let him "do his thing" then.
I can relate ;)

In addition to the hikari algae wafers, mine really go for the hikari carivore wafers (as do all the other fish).
