Another Pleco for ID'ing, It was sold as a Clown Pleco.

I bought this today and think it is as sold, a clown Pleco. I would appreciate any comments.

Currently approx. 30mm long.

Hi there,

Check out Panaquolus maccus, L104, common name clown plec, looks a match to me.

Great little plec, always busy zipping around the tank. Some bogwood to chomp on would be appreciated. by the fish ..not me

Like the tank, and it does look like

Panaqolus maccus

. It may just be the angle of the 2nd photograph, but it also looks a bit thin. It shouldn't look at all sunken or concave in the stomach region.

great little plec you never see them, unless you shine a torch into the darkest recesses of the tank

would be nearer the mark for me. I'd be a bit worried about any small Panaque that was active during the day.

You may also find your bog-wood is a bit hard, some soft drift wood might be better as a food supplement. I'd definitely suggest feeding some vegetables at night at the moment, something that will provide some immediate nutrients - Courgette, par-boiled Carrot, Green Pepper, Green Bean, Yam or Sweet Potato. Others will be able to tell you which tablets/pellets they may also eat.

Thanks guys, my other plecos were all tucking into courgette over night, it is a favourite.

My Roma also has 2 albino plecos and a tiger pleco... All very young at the moment. I have 3 tanks in total and one of them has a couple of bristle nose plecos in which is why I've grown to liking these little fishes.

My aim is to ensure they all get the best it can do for them and hence ensuring I know which ones I have.

I got a great deal, fluval Roma 240 tank, stand and the huge bog wood for £63...!

I scraped the stand as it was too low and not good storage and bought a pine sideboard that I strengthened.
The light unit had a fault and had been replaced with an LED unit but I've updated it to pair of T5 54w tubes.

Now I've added my cats and am building up a collection of plecos...

Hi,

IMHO this should be L 448 (Panaqolus sp. aff. maccus) and not P. maccus (L 162).
L 104 might be the same as L 448 (6-8 cm), P. maccus grows considerably bigger (up to 10 cm) and usually has more stripes in the pectoral fins.

The real P. maccus is rather seldom in the hobby whereas L 448 from Colombia is very common.

I agree with Karsten on the ID of this specific species. However, at least the fishes I see in the UK are often
