When are fry safe for main tank?
When are fry safe for main tank?
Hi, new here, 1st post.
I have my first panda Cory fry in a 10g tank. When can they go in the main tank with their parents?
Other fish include a pearl gourami, tetras, and 3 adult corycats.

Pretty much LOL As long as they don't have to compete to much for food so they can continue growing.Psalm18.2 wrote:That simple huh? LOL.Valb68 wrote:When they don't fit in a mouth

I was a little concerned that they can get to the surface in the 40b.

Re: When are fry safe for main tank?
I'm pretty sure that "getting to the surface" is not really an issue as long as the water is sufficiently oxygenated. I keep finding cory fry in my external filters, and there is certainly no "surface" inside my external filters, and the fry are big enough that they must have got there a long time back (I don't clean my filters overly often!)
I have also had tiny fry "appear" in my tanks, and they survive surprisingly well even when there are some potential predators (although not real predators), e.g. eartheaters and larger synodontis. I'm not saying this is the ideal situation, but I've had cory fry at around 1/2"/12mm in with of around 8"/20cm.

They went into the main tank today. I'll miss the little buggers sitting next to me.
Although I picked up some pygmeas to replace them.
