He is about 5 inches at the mo and doing realy well :D
Got him when he was about 2 inches.
He is in a 36 by 15 by 18inch tank with a large external filter.
I realise that they can get to 18 inches and will get a bigger tank in the future if I need to.
Do plecs like gibbiceps only get to a large size in a very big tank.
I have not worded my question very well  was just wondering if gibby will get to full potential size in my tank if so will need a bigger tank in the future

If you change water often enough, it'll get there. AFAIK less than clean water inhibits growth. Consequently in a small tank you'll have to change water more often to have the same growth rate as in a large one.

Thanks for the reply, however what does AFAIK mean :?:
A 50% water change is done every 2 weeks and he shares the tank with a Royal Panaque (3 inches).
Water is good and nitrates are zero.

I had a gibby in a 3 foot tank for years. It stayed at 10" regardless of food and water changes. Even at 10" it was a bit cramped in the 3' tank. A 4 foot' wider tank sorted that out (although it didn't grow anymore).

a 3 foot tank is like being in a sardin can for him... even 4 foot is not a big home for such fish... nothing under 5 foot for them ...
