Names for fossil taxa

Whenever names of fossil (extinct) taxa are used, it's the usual convention (especially when both fossil and Recent taxa are mentioned together) to preface the name with a dagger character (†) like so:
†Hypsidoridae
†Hypsidoris oregonensis

This allows easy distinction between Recent and fossil taxa. One notable exception is dinosaur taxa (because everyone knows that they are extinct...well, almost all of them anyways).

OK, think I've got it sussed. The trick is to use the HTML ( & # 8 2 2 4 ; ) for the † symbol but NOT in the database otherwise it sorts the family to before those beginning with the letter A. Ah, good old ASCII...
