i have a 250 gal that has been running with a 550 canister pump. yesterday i added a 600 gph was was so happy with the results i got another 800gph today. also because they were our of the 600's. which came with a screw on filter and seem to be doing a excellent job in helping my canister keep my tank clean. but i am worried if these may hurt my breeding pair or king tigers or bother my two royals? :(

to sum it up more

1 550 gph
1 600 gph
1 800 gph

theres also a few powerheads that never seemed too powerful but the royals seem to enjoy. those might be removed if comments here are that i may be putting my fish in harm. this is sorta a present because my king tigers are like on their third spawn and i never gave them much current, so i was to spoil them, hiding spots is not an issue the tank is full of them so my guess is this will only help keep my water cleaner and maybe hopefully make them wanna spawn more? ;)

So unless my brain isn't doing math (it is quarter to one at night) that's 1950 gph in a 250 gallon tank? Not even 10x turnover. I have a 400 liter (about 100g) with a filter that does 1700 liter (approx 400gph) and a circulation pump that does 4000lph (1000gph) - that's 14x turnover. I have several tanks with 1000 lph filtration on a 100 liter tank, again giving 10x turnover.

I do sometimes find fry in the filters, but generally, they stay away from the filter intakes. They certainly only go into the filter if they like to [I had a sump system before, and I found fry in the "wrong tank", which means they either swam UP the stream of the drain [from one tank to the next], or swam through the flow of the circulation pump - or passed through the impeller - judging by one or two that I found inside the impeller housing, I don't think that's the case...]
