Mysterious Doradid

Hello
Hey guys, I've done a bit of a naughty and bought a fish without prior research at the LFS.

I managed to get a few snaps before turning the light off and releasing it. I've had a look at the Doradid pages but I can't find anything which looks the same. Any ideas?

Are you sure it is a Doradid? I'm not certain, I can't see the tell tale scales on the body along the lateral line

I agree, either Erethistes or one of the Hara species.

I think it's a Hara Horai, thanks for the direction everybody. Have yet to see it since I let it free into the tank, hopefully I can take good care.

Completely wrong shaped body and adipose fin for Hara horai. The much more common Erethistes pusillus IMO.

Hmm, I think you're right. I haven't actually seen the fish since I let it out of the bag so I'm going on the same photos you are! It's a big tank with a lot of caves and plant material and the catfish is hardly 2cm long, no doubt I will discover the hiding place soon though. It might even have burrowed because I have a soft sand substrate, the page says they have a tendancy to dig. Thanks guys!
