Usually in the "dry season" is the best time for catching plecos (lower water levels, slower rivers); that would be June-August/Sept.

i see you're in hoboken.. i bought one at shark aquarium early last year.. not sure when they will have more but it was $40 i think at like 2" which is pretty much the going rate
