European catfishes

Hi!
How many species of catfishes live in europe? I`m thinked to travel and search european catfishes, it would be nice to see them in nature
. Finlands catfish list is not huge
, but in Sweden live Silurus glanis, can you recommed some places to see european cats? Any info about european cats is welcome?

is the only native European catfish I believe. You can also find introduced (from North America)
in several countries, especially France.

There are two AFAIK, the other being Silurus aristotelis.

It's such an obscure species we don't even have (and I've never seen) a picture of it.

I think it looks pretty much exactly like the wels. But then again, I have been wrong before.

there is another one.lota lota (burbot or bubbot).
A true beauty but seldom seen.
a fresh water cod like catfish.

Very interesting fish but, like you say, a cod-like fish (Gadiformes) not a catfish (Siluriformes).

Yes indeed, burbot are NOT catfish. They were thought to be extinct here in the uk but a couple have been caught in recent years by anglers

The beauty is in the eye of a beholder. I love the way they look too but google "the ugliest fish in the world festival in Minnesota" and you will see. E.g.,
