Hypancistrus sp. Guaviare breeding

Got hold of a group of eight wild import individuals some weeks ago, this group originally was imported to Norway back in April 2012 from Rare Aquatics, UK.

Two days after arrival the first spawning took place but at once the eggs hatched the male kicked them out and invited a new female into his slate cave. This time I removed the male and cave and placed them in a "hatching tank" so he wouldn't be tempted to invite a new female before he had done his job.

So far this seems to have been a success as the fry have hatched and are almost ready to leave the cave. I guess I'll be moving the male back into the spawning tank this coming weekend.

Tank setup: 96l (60x40x40), ph 7.2, 29-30 degrees, HMF w/1000 l/t powerhead, 10 hours daily automatic waterchange (2l added each hour). Sand, driftwood and two slate caves and one round ceramic cave. Breeding took place in one of the slate caves.

Congrats!! Is there another name for this fish or do you have more pictures of the full fish? I wouldn't mind reading up on them.

Sorry, I don't have any more or better photos of the fish than what's posted so far. Since they started spawning more or less right away I didn't want to stirr things up and start removing individuals into the photo-tank...

I don't think it has an official name yet or L-number so that's probaby why there aren't any page on it here at PC.

Today there was some action in the original breeding tanks as the remaining males have been trying t get some attention from the females, three caves where occupied with males and females. But this also happened when the first spawning took plce, two caves and two "pairs" but there was only eggs in one. But who knows, perhaps there will be new eggs for x-mas?

The group decided to squeeze in another spawning before the end of 2012, new eggs where found on December 29th. So the cave and male moved into the hatching tank again.
