Peppermint Pleco

My husband brought home a beautiful peppermint pleco the other night. We decided the blue phantoms were just a little too pricey.

I haven't been able to find much information on him/her with regard to her eating habits. I believe she is an L030 based on the photos.

She's been hiding under (and seemingly eating) the driftwood mostly since we got her but she did come out and nibble on an algae wafer last night after the tank lights were off. What else should I provide for her? I'll try some zucchini tonight. I'm hoping he/she will work on the algae in the tank but I want to make sure I provide a proper diet.

Hopefully, she will stop hiding long enough for me to get a picture soon. Last night she only came out once the tank lights shut off (I keep wanting to call it "she" but I have no idea what sex it is).

Hmm... is the L30 an uncommon fish? If so I wonder if my ID is incorrect, since she was less expensive than the blue phantoms and others at the store.

Does anyone know anything about their eating habits? Do they prefer veggies/algae or do they need meat in their diet?

Still trying to get a picture but she's still hiding. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

They must be feed pretty much like other Loricariidae and especially like Ancistrus spp.
A stricly vegetarian diet is not really a good thing and a too much animaled proteined food is a bad thing as well but a good mixture between the 2 is the best solution.
Try diverse type of food to see what she likes best...
