Panaque sp. 6

Post by Shane »

Guys,
Doing some research on Panaque for an article and was flipping through the Cat-elog. Had anyone noticed that what we have as Panaque sp. 6 is a VERY close match to the description of P. suttonorum? Jools, do we have any additional info on where these photos came from?

Hi Shane!

This is what is written on the page( http://tiger.towson.edu/~hnonog1/Special.htm ) where you can also find these pictures:

The yellow fin Cochliodon is recently introduced us as a new from Rio Tapajos. The yellow edges in each fin are unusual among Loricarids. You may have seen one before in markets, but here, these were caught different locality by W.B. SABBY fishermen. Watch carefully, the brightness of the fins are much more better than the fish used to be sold in the market!! Thanks W.B.SABBY again, indeed!! (10/5/01)

Cheers

A Brailian exporter in Manaus I beleive. Not P. suttonurum but then all the royal plecos coming from that exporter "can't" be P. nigrolineatus by the same (old) argument. I think if we ever do find the real P. suttonurum again it will be externally indistinguishable from Panaque sp. 6.
