Questions about L240

I got an adult 8"-9" L240 over a month agao. It never comes out of hiding and i've never seen it eat anything. It is in a 75 gallon tank with an L200, LDA01/L169, a school of denison barbs and a couple of other misc fish. The only time i ever see it is during water changes when i lift up the driftwood to clean under it. Ive tried feeding NLS 6mm pellets, kens sinking 6mm krill pellets, algae waffers, frozen shrimp, and various veggies, and ive never seen it out eating, not even after lights are turned off. i know they aren't the most active plecos, but im starting to get a little worried. Is this normal behavior?

He is obviously eating since you have had him for over a month. Next time you do a water change pick him up and if his belly appears to be somewhat full then you probably will have to respect his privacy.

Any snails in the tank? Maybe it's snacking on those too?
Try garlic extract on some of your food; maybe it will stimulate its appetite?

the face is definitely not sunken in and it had a full looking belly when i saw it during todays water change.
also no snails in the tank, im thinking i might be eating some of the kens 1.5mm color crumble that i feed to the other fish

My colony of adult L240s really like frozen spirulina shrimp. You may want to try that. Like the others have said, after having it a month, chances are, it is eating. My 4 are in a 40 Breeder, and they are out and about all the time. Good luck.

My L029 (similar or same species) colony shows a clear affinity for cover (rocks/wood) and typically won't venture far from it to feed with the lights on. Even so, they are easily observed aggressively feeding on pelleted and frozen food which falls near their lairs. In fact they will vigorously defend their food from significantly larger Crenicichla. After lights-off, they are much bolder in their explorations of the aquarium.

Although it sounds as though your fish is feeding, I think many would be surprised just how long most of our aquarium fish can survive without food. Although I don't recommend starving one's livestock, I have seen numerous aquarium fish tolerate a month without feeding.
