Im intrigued with the new Repashy Fish Food that Ted Judy has been advocating lately. Has anyone tested Repashy fish food on Corydoras fry and juveniles ? If yes which particular formula did you use? Thanks in advance for the reply.

I have experimented a little so far. I find that bristlenose plecos can devour the gel at any age. But Corydoras adults or fry cannot break the gel down to eat it. So unless you squish it down and spread it out they cannot eat it. Palatability is no problem, they are very much attracted to it.

My experience has been quite different. I've been feeding meat pie to my corys and have fry "magically appearing" in my hastatus and sterbai tanks rather frequently. There may be a couple not surviving that I never see, but there are still quite a few fry in both tanks.

I too have had fantastic results using the Meat Pie and Soilent green.
My fry of various sizes are raised in tubs and they swarm this food and
devour it excitedly. I am very excited to be using it. :-!

My juvie cories like the shrimp mix as do all my plecos. My pleco fry have no problems with the Repashy foods. :-BD

do you just drop the gel as is or do you mash it up a bit for younger fry?

I have found that tearing it in smaller pieces makes it easier for Cory fry to eat it rather than cutting it - the rough surface created by the tear is easier for them rip at, a friend said that the smooth surface of a cut piece was too difficult for the fish to get at.

I haven't bothered with mashing it and have had no problems. I was cutting a large dish into cubes till about a week ago, but have since started using the mini ice cube trays to get more consistent portions. They have done well with both of these.

I have found it to be a very good food. However I would suggest boiling the water in a kettle or pot. Microwaved water is destroyed in the microwave. Microwaved foods lose 60% to 90% of their vitamins. Seeds watered with water that has been microwaved will not grow. Search Microwaves and Cancer. You will be shocked at what you find out. Russia banned microwaves in 1976.

Don't believe everything you read. According to Euromonitor 2.9 million microwaves were sold in Russia in 2009 so they are not banned or illegal.

Tap Water does not have any vitamins in it to begin with, and microwaving does not destroy minerals. That has no basis in fact.

And the process of heating food up (whether it's on a stove top, oven, or microwave) is what inactivates/denatures vitamins.

I don't know about your seed information but I never water my plants or seedlings with hot or sterilized water anyways so I am not sure the point.

Back to the original subject. I have some Repashy food I picked up but I haven't made it up yet as I am not sure how best to shape it. Is it better to spread it out on rocks and then let it cool or do people mold it into shapes more often?

I was originally cutting it into sections from a large dish, and that worked fine. However, for the sake of consistent portion size, I'm now using mini ice cube trays and it doesn't seem to effect the response. I haven't tried putting it on rocks or tile, but can't imagine it would improve feeding much. Most of my tanks attack it as soon as it hits water, and I've even seen my L114 catch a chunk in mid-water and chew it all the way to the bottom.

Thanks. The only ice cube trays I have are too big so I may just try cutting it in chunks for now.

I just pour the hot solution (1/4 cup powder and 3/4 cup water) into a 12 x 12 Pyrex square pan, wait for it to cool and gel (sometimes placing it in the refrigerator), then cut it into chunks and put in plastic bags in the freezer. It's quite easy. When I want to feed it, I usually cut them up into smaller chunks so that it is scattered around the tank.
