I would think would be more likely. They are a much more common find in stores, plus it has a little black in the dorsal, which the C156 doesn't have.

when I look here in Germany in the stores I would estimate that you can find about ten different species labelled as C. agassizii.
Who knows how many of these are the really C. agassizii ?!

I don't really think that your corys are C. agassizii.
When it comes to this species complex it is very difficult to get a definite ID.
It doesn't help much anyway to know the correct name as you won't find them correctly labelled in the shops...
The best you can do is to carefully compare shape and colouration of similar species in the shop with yours no matter what they are named.

is also a possibility. According to Nijssen in 1980 C. ambiacus and C. agassizi are very close and due to the overlapping colour patterns, are difficult to differentiate between.

Love this fish! Some the same or very close were at an auction here in San Francisco last Friday! They sold as wild corys. There were two three packs. I wanted them so badly. But couldnt get them. We thought they might be corydoras Ornatus? I'm no expert lol so just adding a comment I guess!
