Brine shrimp should work also. As will chopped earthworm.

and good quality live bloodworms too; many cats go berserk on these.

You might try newborn guppies, but if he doesn't find them, you'll end up with a guppy tank

Blood worm is best, but sometimes that live stuff brings other nasties with it! Chopped or small earthworms washed i think are better.
