Just a thought. I was wondering if the no of posts function could be switched off and what people thought of it. I know its really nice to see how many posts you have made but sometimes I wonder if it is becoming a bit of a competition with people making replies to queries that are unrelated/ unrelevant just to increase there no of posts.
Sorry to offend.

The only reall bennifit I see to having a number of post show, will help newbies tell who is "senior" on the board. However this can be ealiy outweighed by the user status, IE "Forum Frequenter" "Forum follower" ect could maybe be define on the front page or something so newbies can identify with who's new, and who's not.
Just a thought

I would be inclined to keep it as it does give useful information. I think anyone posting just to increase their numbers would be spotted and "dealt with". If we do remove it I would like the rankings to remain.Rusty wrote:It does make sense. I'll look into whether it can be removed safely.

hi
personally I dont see the importance of seeing wether someone is "senior" or not. Surely all questions/ observations have some merit and any response has equal merit regardless of "seniority". I for one am gratefull for any response to any query. What I said was purely a thought an Idea it was not directed at anyone. The only case I can see these features as important is for the forum moderators and administrators, so we all know who's Boss!In the end though it really isn't important.
thanks

Dont know if its possible here but I've seen some other forums that have a small link like "report to moderator on ....." next to the reply forum. If one or so thinks that a posting made by someone is really as good as having none, he/she can click that link to let the moderator know, and from there I guess its the moderator's job....

I really fail to see what all the fuzz is about. Of the 6 people with 100+ postings 5 are mods and I have yet to see a spam from Silurus who has most postings.
From 7'th (76 ) to 40'th (11) there is a sharp drop in postings.
Even discussing this will only make people shut up, instead of beeing accused of spam.
I personaly woulden't like that since this site finally has come alive
Afaik it looks like a quite normal forum.

I appreciate the reluctanct to use the term junkie, but guru implies great knowledge and no. of posts does not = catfish knowledge. That is NO slight whatsoever on our current high posters who are (happily) catfish gurus.

You could also try catfishaholic *grin*
Sorry, I couldn't resist. This problem has been discussed recently on a few of the boards I frequent. As long as there is a willingness to step on people posting for no reason, but to increase their post count, I can't see a problem. The community is still small enough to easily manage with mostly public opinion, IMO.
I think you guys are doing a great job, and appreciate the forum greatly. Thanks again
