Certainly a spp. Have a trawl through the Cat-eLog to see what matches.

I assume it wasn't really sourced from Uruguay?

I purchased it at a small local pet shop. So the source would be hard to trace back. I was very red in the tank in the store especially the tail.

I once caught very similar looking plecos in the Arroyo Sarandi, 50 km east of Uruguay. Thus it is possible they are from Uruguay, but dfue to the fact hardly any fishes are commercially shipoped from Uruguay not likely.

Still the Rio Uruguay devides Uruguay from Argentina, and from Argentina more fishes are shipped

From this Arroyo (Spanish for small river) a bleuish grey pleco @ ~40 was also found, I can not say the same speciers or not, butr we did not find any other plecos. Therefore you should keep in mind they might grow BIG
